If you want to witness a living example of a proxy war, look at the deteriorating situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan right now. Following the failure of the Istanbul talks, there is a fear that both countries will march towards the battlefield, and indeed, India's conspiracies will be at work behind the Afghan Taliban. Pakistan is currently about to contend with a group that it nurtured, sustained, and helped win against global powers.
Pakistan fulfilled various objectives—from supplying military weapons and putting the Taliban through different phases of training, to granting refuge to Afghans and hosting them. Today, the situation has escalated to the point where intentions are being voiced to "destroy, obliterate, devastate, and target Islamabad."
Given this situation, the ruling circles must rein in the unbridled horses of sectarianism and establish an atmosphere of unity within the country. Confronting an external enemy depends on the internal security situation. When favorable domestic conditions welcome you, you can easily withstand harsh external circumstances. Otherwise, the foreign enemy is already there to inflict harm, and internal opponents will also gain strength. These opponents might even betray Pakistan to protect and bolster the Taliban ideology, as evidenced by past suicide attacks in our dear homeland.
Who is unaware that Pakistan is a haven for numerous sects, schools of thought, and religions? Here, the drum of creeds, ideologies, thoughts, and faiths beats loudly. With every religion having its own distinct concept and every sect its own divine kingdom, the zeal for the state or the spirit for protecting the borders is lost in the battle of creed and faith. Every sect is eager to sustain itself through two or three slogans, but there is little concern for saving the land upon which they reside. The situation has now reached a stage where it seems difficult for conditions to become favorable even for "mediation."
This is why, as much effort is put into stabilizing this country, an endless chain of conspiracies also emerges. The sectarian and factional landscape in the country is a result of those very conspiracies. The people who deliver long and passionate speeches in the name of their sect never utter a single sentence against anti-Islamic forces. The whole of Gaza has been obliterated; thousands have been killed. Yet, these sectarian figures have barely shown any movement. Today, they roam as lions within the country and threaten rival sects.
The ruling circles should send such individuals to the front lines of the war so that their "spiritual and passionate strength" can contribute to the survival of the country. Otherwise, these paper tigers will become a headache and could pose a risk to national integrity. If, God forbid, there is a direct war between Pakistan and Afghanistan with India supporting it from behind, the state officials should throw all sectarian individuals who are prominent in the "Kafir Kafir" game into the war, so that the true nature of their faith will be revealed and a glimpse of their spiritual strength will be seen.
